Professional photographs depicting various topics pertaining to the Japanese American community of Los Angeles in the early years of World War II: a father showing a portrait of his son, Frank Nakako, who was then serving in the US Army; headquarters of the Los Angeles chapter of the anti-Axis Japanese American Citizens' League; editor Shuji Fujii, his wife Kikue Fujii, and Goerge Matsui in the press room of Doho; Japanese-American students at UCLA; a sign on the front window of Yokohama Specie Bank, announcing the revocation of its business license; Japanese Americans buying war bonds; Nisei girls Red Cross unit; Japanese churches in Los Angeles; the family of farmer Fusataro Fujimoto selling produce prior to their evacuation; American Legion members Dr. T.Y. Takeyama and Masao Igasaki; and Tokutaro Nishimura Slocum at his home in Van Nuys.

Some prints accompanied by typescript captions sheets with manuscript annotations by Kikue Fujii (one of them signed K. Fujii). Per some of the annotated comments, the captions were apparently intended to be published with the photographs. Opening caption, and perhaps all others, likely devised in the months following Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Captions are addressed to a Mrs. Kline.

Shuji Fujii was the editor of Doho, a Los Angeles-based weekly leftist news magazine, published in Japanese and English, which promoted anti-Axis causes and encouraged support of the United States war effort against Japan.
Tokutaro Nishimura "Tokie" Slocum fought for the United States in First World War; helped to pioneer legislation for the naturalization process of Japanese Americans; during early years of Second World War was active in the Japanese American Citizens' League and collaborated with U.S. intelligence agencies in counter-espionage activities directed at Japanese Americans believed to be collaborating with Japan; was interned in the Manzanar relocation camp for the remainder of World War II; died in Fresno in 1974.
